William T. Stanford established Bettendorf Stanford in 1965 when he purchased the assets of the Bettendorf Company of Bettendorf, Iowa. The Bettendorf Company was the original manufacturer of the micro bread slicer and slicer blades. With the purchase, the company was moved in 1966 from Bettendorf, Iowa to Salem, Illinois, where it remains today. Salem is 75 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri.
