WARNING ! ! !
BAND BLADES, EVEN DULL ONES, ARE VERY
SHARP AND CAN CAUSE SEVERE CUTS.
EXTREME CAUTION SHOULD BE EXERCISED
WHEN HANDLING BLADES.
Putting on new blades:
- To put on new blades, remove the pivot bolt from the hone support shaft and swing it down and out of the way.
- Insert the slotted end of the machine crank in the hole and back out the lower stub shaft until a 1" gap shows
between the bearing housing and the drum support. Back out the upper stub shaft in the same manner.
- Put the new blades on the slicer. Place the end of the blade on the upper drum, the scallop point should face the
opposite direction as the blades that were removed from the machine. Rotate the blade 180° and place the other
end of the blade on the lower drum. Work the blade across the drum and place it in the guide. Repeat for the rest
of the blades. Insure that all of the blades are in the correct guides and that none of them are crossed or out of
the guides. Screw in the upper and lower drum stub shafts. Replace the pivot bolt in the hone support shaft.
- Slowly start to put tension on the blades while rotating the upper drum by hand. Never tension the blades without
rotating the drums. After the blades start to get tight, check again to insure that all of the blades are in the guides
correctly. Raise the lower backing roller into place and secure with the latch pin. Replace the doors and covers
and turn power back on. With the drums operating under full power, apply final tension to the blades. Check
the blades with a calibrated tension gauge and tighten to 75-85 lbs. Check several blades across the drum for
proper tension, if the tension is not the same it could be an early indicator that the drums are getting out of alignment.
- Replace the loose leaf hold down, and put the hone stones on the machine. Replace the scraper and oiler block on the
machine and reconnect the oiler tubes, initially fill the oiler block with oil. Replace the upper backing roller. Turn the
slicer blades on and check the backing roller position. Both rollers should be .003 - .005" from the blades and evenly
spaced across the entire drum. Adjust as necessary.
- Manually cycle the hone and check for proper honing. Adjust if necessary.
